Most Advanced Life Support services in the Sierra use the Zoll X-Series. This microlesson was created with diverse learners in mind. Some learners will have had some exposure using this monitor, while others will have had none. Those not working with these monitors frequently forget how to use the various functions or may encounter a situation where a certain function is needed that they have not learned how to use.
The manual is 366 pages long and is not easy to reference quickly. Zoll offers instructional videos. However, some videos are lengthy and include multiple features. Pre-hospital care providers will benefit from a series of microlearning lessons that focus on one feature at a time and are easily referenceable.
This topic lends itself to a performance-based microlearning lesson where a pre-hospital care provider can access specific how-to information during a time of need. A lot of information is disseminated during training. Often, it leads to information overload. Most information passes through the brain without being logged into long-term memory. Having microlearning lessons reinforces previous training. It could also be used to supplement training. Instead of providing all the information up front, learning the different features of the Zoll monitor could be done as it becomes relevant.
